As you might already know, the Art Lending Collection at the Braddock Carnegie Library is Pittsburgh’s first art lending library, a place where you can loan out works of art from national and region artists just like you would a library book. But now, you have a chance to interact with the artwork in a whole new way.

You and Your Art Photo ContestThe library is holding a You and Your Art Photo Contest and everyone is invited to participate. All you have to do is visit the Art Lending Collection, check out a piece of artwork there, and then photograph it in its new home with its new audience. Photos will be judged on creativity and originality by Braddock Carnegie Library staff, and the best will be displayed in the main area of the library and at the 2013 Carnegie International on the Art Lending Collection wall of art. Grand prize for the best overall photo is $50 and you can submit up to three via email or flash drive.

Through a partnership with the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Braddock-based arts collective Transformazium brought Pittsburgh’s first art lending collection to the Braddock Carnegie Library in the fall of 2013. Now, anyone with an Allegheny County Library Card can browse and “check out” pieces of artwork from both regional and international artists featured in the 2013 Carnegie International to enjoy in their homes like a book or a DVD. Sculpture, paintings, silkscreens, photography—the Library has it all.

With artist talks and educational programs, the Art Lending Collection works to open a discourse about art with Pittsburgh, nourishing the vibrancy of the city’s arts community and fostering the transformative and transgressive interaction of individuals, artists, artworks and the world. The Art Lending Collection received a $10,000 Seed Award as well as grants from the Heinz Endowments and the Carnegie Museum of Art to help bring world-class art to the public in a personal way.

Enter the contest and be a part of the art. Submissions are being taken until March 1st, so get yours in soon. If you have any questions, call the library at 412-351-5356 or email them at alc@nullbraddockcarnegielibrary.org, or just stop in and see the librarians at the Art Lending Collection yourself.
